China's goal is to reduce the average fuel consumption to 4L/100km by 2025. Without the support of hybrid technology, this is very difficult to achieve. This breakthrough of Great Wall is of great significance.


01 High speed has more advantages


Currently, there are two major schools in the hybrid field. One is Toyota’s planetary gear set series structure, and the general hybrid system is also this school. The other is Honda’s parallel structure. This time Great Wall Motor’s hybrid Movement belongs to the latter faction. The advantages and disadvantages of Toyota's planetary gear structure are obvious. The advantage is that if the driver drives in the optimal speed range of this system, its transmission efficiency and fuel saving are very high. The disadvantage is that when the vehicle is raised to a high speed, the efficiency and power of this system will be very attenuated.



The Great Wall hybrid system can give the driver a very good power experience and relatively high transmission efficiency at high speeds. This system currently matches three different specifications of powertrains. Under the two architectures of HEV/PHEV, there are powertrains of '1.5L + DHT100' and '1.5T + DHT130'. Under the PHEV architecture, there is also a '1.5T +DHT130+P4' four driving force assembly.



HEV two-wheel drive system, the maximum power of the power system is 180kW, and the total power of PHEV two-wheel drive system can reach 240kW. The HEV architecture uses a 1.8kWh battery, which increases the battery capacity by more than 30% compared to the traditional hybrid system. The PHEV architecture is equipped with a 45kWh battery, which can be charged 80% in 30 minutes, and currently provides an 8-year/150,000 km warranty. The PHEV+P4 structure front and rear axle motors can output power at the same time, and the maximum total system power can reach 320kW.


02 Four operating modes


Like the hybrid systems of Toyota and Honda, the Great Wall system is roughly divided into four operating states.


EV mode energy flow: In the EV mode, the TM motor can directly drive the wheels, so that the engine is always kept in a high efficiency area, and the power performance is maximized.



Series mode energy flow: The series mode is suitable for urban driving conditions. The engine drives the GM to generate electricity, and the TM motor directly drives the wheels. In the series hybrid mode, the fuel saving rate can reach 35%-50% .



Parallel mode energy flow: High-speed driving conditions are more suitable for parallel mode. It is driven by the engine to directly drive the wheels. The GM motor and TM motor are responsible for adjusting the engine operating point and auxiliary driving the wheels. This kind of engine direct drive works The point directly falls in the high-efficiency area, and the fuel consumption can be reduced by 10%~15% compared with the series mode.



Energy recovery mode energy flow: The energy recovery mode is suitable for braking conditions. The TM motor directly performs energy recovery, which not only improves the working efficiency of the vehicle, increases the cruising range, but also further reduces fuel consumption, thus better Optimize energy usage.



The release of Great Wall Motor's hybrid power system this time represents the technological breakthrough of its own brand. Prior to this, in addition to the hybrid systems of Japanese Toyota and Honda, only GM's hybrid system could stand at this height.
