Improve cyber security, Toyota, Honda and other Japanese companies form alliances

With the continuous development of intelligent networking and autonomous driving, network security has become the primary issue that plagues major OEMs and suppliers. In order to better respond to the above-mentioned problems, the Japanese auto industry will establish an alliance in 2021 to bring together the power of major companies to jointly improve network security. It is reported that Toyota, Honda, Denso, Panasonic, etc. have joined the alliance, and more well-known companies will participate in it in the future.

Although 'unity is strength' is true in all fields, it is difficult to achieve for network security. Car companies are often unwilling to share their system vulnerabilities and data information with competitors. To solve this problem, the aforementioned alliances will be completely 'anonymous' in the exchange of information, joint investigations, and joint exercises, and the data they share will also undergo special processing.

Nevertheless, sharing data is a risky thing for car companies, suppliers, and even users. For example, car companies and car dealers have a large amount of user information in their hands, including personal information, home address, GPS records, bank accounts, credit records, etc. Do you need to obtain user consent to share this information? Do these users rest assured that car companies will share the above data with other car companies and even other suppliers? Before the above-mentioned problems are completely resolved, I am afraid that the alliance will not be able to make substantial progress in cyber security.

ufeffIn fact, Japanese car companies have suffered a lot in terms of network security. As early as 2017, Nissan’s plant in the UK was damaged by a series of cyber attacks; in 2019, Toyota sales company was hacked, and about 3.1 million user information was leaked; in June 2020, Honda was hacked again. Businesses in Japan, Europe, and North America were all forced to suspend. I don't know what kind of energy these Japanese companies that have suffered a loss can burst together when they join together?
