Skoda plans to cut administrative positions by 2%

According to foreign media reports, Skoda, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, plans to cut 2% of administrative jobs in the Czech Republic in 2021, mainly by not hiring new employees to replace former employees.



Skoda is the largest exporter in the Czech Republic, with approximately 42,000 employees worldwide. Among them, most of the employees are in the Czech Republic. As for the specific number of employees and administrative positions in the Czech Republic, the Czech Republic declined to provide more details. According to the forecast of the Czech News Agency (CTK), Skoda has around 34,000 employees in the Czech Republic.


On March 4, Skoda spokesperson Tomas Kotera said: “This year, thanks to the development of the population curve and natural fluctuations, we can reduce our administrative staff by 2% this year.” In addition, Kotera added, The company hopes to achieve this goal without layoffs due to organizational reasons.


Earlier on March 4, the Skoda Union stated that the company plans to reduce its “indirect” employees by 5% each year for the three years ending in 2023, that is, employees who are not involved in actual production. Skoda declined to comment on this figure.


In 2020, Skoda delivered a total of 1,004,800 new cars worldwide, with sales exceeding one million units for 7 consecutive years. In Europe, the company's market share rose to 5.4%.
