Dalian driverless taxis open for free, 5 kilometers downtown area, one-click taxi-hailing

Even if the realization of fully autonomous driving technology is still facing many problems, it seems that unmanned driving in specific areas and specific routes is not far away from us. Recently, five driverless taxis have been put into use in Jinpu New District of Dalian, Liaoning, and the trial ride experience is available to residents for free.

It is understood that the five driverless taxis launched this time are the e-HS3 jointly built by FAW Hongqi and Apollo. The driving range is within 5 kilometers of the local Jinma Road in a closed-loop mode.

Although it is only 5 kilometers, this section is a commercial block and there are multiple bus stops. The flow of people and vehicles is relatively large, and the road conditions are complicated, which poses a lot of challenges to autonomous driving.

If you want to experience driverless taxis, local residents only need to call a taxi on the online platform with one click. Passengers in the test ride can feel that the driverless taxi appropriately accelerates, decelerates and parks comity according to the road conditions. At the same time, in order to ensure safety, there will still be safety officers in the car to accompany passengers for a trial ride experience.

The driverless taxis participating in the test are equipped with high-precision radar sensors that can identify crosswalks, pedestrians passing by, and traffic lights and other road conditions, and will brake accurately and in time.

Dalian Jinpu New District Development and Reform Bureau stated that the next step will be to launch driverless taxis in more locations outside of Jinma Road, and to promote tourism in different regions and countries based on this scenario application. Application of unmanned driving scenarios in small areas.

It is understood that road tests of unmanned vehicles have been carried out in many cities in China. Changsha, Hunan, opened trial rides of self-driving taxis in May last year. Beijing also officially launched the first batch of driverless taxis in October last year. However, compared to Beijing and other places where there are relatively few traffic and pedestrian traffic, such as Haidian and Yizhuang, the city selected for this test is a real commercial block, and the road conditions are relatively more complicated. It is believed that with the maturity of technology, more driverless taxis will be opened to passengers in more cities in the future.
