China Automotive News, January 29, GM recently announced that its global products and operations will achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, and achieve zero carbon emissions through its own energy saving and emission reduction, carbon offsets and carbon credit purchases.

In order to actively respond to climate change, General Motors also promised to join the 1.5°C corporate ambition plan, and work together with the United Nations and business circles to control the global temperature rise within 1.5°C of the pre-industrial level.

Ms. Mary Barra, Chairman and CEO of General Motors, said: “General Motors is working with governments and companies around the world to create a safer, greener and better world. We Call on more people from all walks of life to join us to promote industry and economic changes.'

Fully realize product electrification

The full realization of product electrification can reduce the company's carbon emissions by 75%. To this end, GM is investing heavily in research and development and manufacturing. In the next five years, the company's total planned investment in electric vehicles and autonomous driving projects will reach 27 billion U.S. dollars, surpassing its fuel vehicle projects.

With the self-developed Ultium battery and electric drive platform as the core, General Motors will launch 30 pure electric models worldwide by 2025, covering a wide range of market segments, and ushering in the 'GM' era of electric vehicles.

In China, more than 40% of the new models launched by the company in the next five years will be new energy models. General Motors is cooperating with the Environmental Defense Fund (Environmental Defense Fund), and plans to achieve zero emissions for all new light-duty vehicles by 2035.

Together to create a 'zero emission' industrial chain closed loop

General Motors is committed to promoting the coordinated development of upstream and downstream industries, building a clean power grid, and developing a green supply chain to deepen its commitment to sustainable development.

As the world's tenth largest renewable energy offtaker, General Motors will achieve 100% renewable energy global operations by 2035, five years ahead of the original plan.

The company will also actively participate in the construction of a renewable energy charging network. In the next five years, GM will work with EVgo, a charging service provider, to add 2,700 fast charging facilities in the United States, all powered by renewable energy.

In addition, GM vigorously promotes carbon reduction actions in the supply chain, improves emission transparency, and increases the use of sustainable materials. In order to achieve common sustainable development, the company has established special committees with some large suppliers to share best practices in emission reduction and set new industry standards.
