Porsche's additional investment in Rimac raises its shareholding ratio to 24%

According to foreign media reports, Rimac Automobili, a Croatian electric supercar, battery and power system company, has once again received investment from Porsche.

On March 8, Porsche stated that it had invested 70 million euros (approximately US$83.3 million) in Rimac, which increased Porsche’s shareholding in Rimac from 15% to 24%. Porsche said that although it has made additional investments in Rimac, the company has not obtained a controlling stake in the latter.

This is the third time Porsche has invested in Rimac. In 2018, the German automaker invested in Rimac for the first time and increased its capital in September 2019. A few months ago, Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors jointly invested 80 million euros in Rimac.

Rimac was founded in 2009 by Mate Rimac. The company’s most famous product is its electric supercar, such as the two-seater C Two that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018. The car has a power of 1914. Horsepower, a top speed of 256 miles per hour (approximately 411 kilometers), and an acceleration time of only 1.85 seconds. Rimac plans to release the final form of C Two in 2021.

However, Rimac's business is more than just supercars. The company employs 1,000 employees. They also focus on the development of high-voltage battery technology, the engineering and manufacturing of electric drive systems, and the development of human-machine digital interfaces.

Lutz Meschke, vice chairman of the Porsche Executive Board, said that Porsche is most interested in the development of Rimac's parts. Meschke pointed out that Rimac 'has a good positioning in prototype solutions and small-batch production. Rimac is becoming a Tier 1 supplier to Porsche and other manufacturers in the high-tech field.' Meschke revealed that Porsche has already developed highly innovative parts.
