China Automotive News, April 28th. Recently, Volkswagen Group (China)'s Volkswagen Anhui MEB plant in Hefei officially started construction. It is reported that this plant is the third pure electric vehicle plant established by the group in China after the MEB plants of SAIC Volkswagen Anting and FAW-Volkswagen Foshan. The plant will use green energy in future production.

The plant is expected to be completed in the middle of 2022, and the first model will be put into production in the second half of 2023. The new plant will lay the foundation for the Group to accelerate its electrification. By 2025, Volkswagen Group (China) plans to deliver approximately 1.5 million new energy vehicles each year.

The construction of Volkswagen's new factory in Anhui includes the reconstruction and expansion of the original Jianghuai Automobile Group workshop and a brand-new body workshop. The project covers a total area of u200bu200b500,000 square meters, of which the new body workshop is expected to occupy an area of u200bu200bapproximately 141,000 square meters. The new factory will adopt a series of energy-saving measures, including the use of steam floor heating in the office area and the selection of low-energy production equipment to help the group achieve the goal of reducing overall carbon emissions. In addition, the project also plans to build a battery and parts supplier park in the factory.

At the same time, Volkswagen Anhui is actively expanding its local talent pool. Recently, the company held a recruitment event at Hefei University and plans to recruit 45 students with engineering backgrounds to join the team. These young talents will return to Volkswagen Anhui MEB factory model center as workshop engineers after receiving a year of intensive training at the Group's factories in various parts of Europe. Ru0026D experts from the German headquarters will also visit during the trial operation phase of the factory to provide professional training for local teams, including digitization, vehicle testing and certification, product management, and electronic product development.

It is estimated that by 2025, Volkswagen Anhui will employ about 500 employees, mainly Ru0026D and engineering innovation talents.

Volkswagen Anhui has concentrated its Ru0026D, quality assurance, pre-production and testing departments in one park to shorten the time to market for new electric models.
